Got questions? I have answers!
Here are answers to some of the questions my future clients typically ask…
As a financial therapist, I help you get a clear picture of your current finances, your goals, and how you got to where you are today. I help you understand the why behind your thoughts about money, help you gain confidence in your financial decision-making skills and ultimately increase your wealth with mindset and habit-formation.
There is such a broad scope to financial therapy work that I wrote a whole article about it that you can check out. Read about financial therapy
A financial planner is typically someone who works for a specific investment company-like Edward Jones, Charles Schwab or Fidelity. They can only recommend and sell the investments owned by their company, even if it’s not in your best interest.
One of the biggest perks about being a financial therapist and not a financial planner is that I am 100% focused on what is best for YOU! My job as your financial therapist is not about recommending specific investments but more about discussing the strategy behind things like investing. I get to give you completely unbiased advice, which is the best part of my job! I don’t want to (and never will) sell you things that may not meet your needs, which is why I became a financial therapist rather than a planner!
The short answer is no. That said, your investment or retirement accounts may be a part of our strategy together, depending on your goals. As a financial therapist, I don’t recommend or sell investments, and I can’t set up your retirement accounts for you. However, we will talk about things for you to consider when investing and starting accounts, and I am happy to direct you to an expert who can do that work for you if you prefer not to DIY.
It really depends on the scope of our work together and your goals. If you are looking to accomplish just one goal, we may work together for a period of weeks. If you want to overhaul your finances completely, we will likely work together for about 6 to 9 months. On average, clients spend about 3 to 4 months in my financial therapy programs.
Absolutely and I would LOVE to meet you in person! If you live in the Portland, Oregon metro area, I offer in-person consultations (currently suspended due to COVID-19). For those of you who live farther away, we video chat… but please feel free to have coffee in hand-for our financial therapy sessions!
Feel free to contact me using the form above! I love hearing from you.
